Rain Tyres

At Kartstore International we supply rain tyre sets from Komet, Vega, Maxxis, LECONT and Apex, covering the Mini, OK and KZ classes with worldwide delivery. Rain tyres are wet-weather kart tyres built with soft, water-dispersing compounds and a grooved tread pattern that channels standing water away from the contact patch. They give you grip, braking stability and confidence when the track is wet, conditions where slick tyres simply can't perform.

Why you need rain tyres

A slick only works on a dry, warm surface. Put water on the track and it has nothing to grip, so the kart starts to aquaplane and you lose the front end. Rain tyres fix that. The grooves clear the water and the softer rubber comes up to temperature quickly, even when it's cold. If you race through the year, a decent set of rains is the difference between a usable wet session and parking the kart. It's also a safety thing, not just a lap-time thing.

The rain tyre brands we sell

Komet rain tyres

We stock the Komet K1D-W and K3W sets. Plenty of OK and KZ drivers run them because the grip stays consistent over a full wet stint.

Vega rain tyres

Vega is one of the most common rain tyres you'll see in international karting. We carry the W6 set, plus the WM1 Mini CIK set made for the smaller Mini karts.

Maxxis rain tyres

The Maxxis MW CIK/FIA set is homologated, so it's the one to look at if your championship requires an approved wet tyre.

LECONT rain tyres

The LECONT LWR set is a solid wet tyre and the spec choice in a number of national series.

Apex rain tyres

The Apex WT set is a good-value option for training and club days when you don't want to wear out your race rubber.

Rain tyres for each class

The sets here cover the main categories, so you can match the right size and compound to your kart:

  • Mini, including CIK-spec sets for younger drivers and smaller karts
  • OK and OK-Junior, the single-speed direct-drive classes
  • KZ and gearbox, where the extra power means you want a tougher wet compound

Not sure which set fits your kart or your championship rules? Send us a message before you order and we'll check it for you.

How to pick the right rain tyres

Start with your regulations. A lot of championships only allow one specific homologated tyre, like a CIK/FIA-approved set, so read your series' technical rules before you buy anything.

After that it comes down to how you'll use them. For racing, go with the homologated set your class needs. For practice in the wet, a cheaper set like the Apex saves your good tyres for race day. Last thing: buy them fresh. Rain rubber goes hard with age and the tread loses its edge, so an old set sitting in the garage won't grip like a new one. Order ahead of the season rather than the night before.
