Body protector

Kartstore International supplies premium karting protectors, including rib vests, body protectors, and neck braces. Designed for maximum safety and comfort, our products protect drivers against impacts and vibrations in all karting categories. Karting body protection shields a driver's ribs, torso and neck from the impacts and constant vibration of racing. Because a kart has no suspension and the seat sits low and rigid, the bodywork transmits every bump straight into the ribs — which is why a well-fitted rib protector is one of the most important pieces of safety gear a karter can own. At Kartstore International you'll find rib protectors, body protectors and neck supports from trusted brands such as Bengio, Tillett, Alpinestars, ARROXX, Speed and Sparco, suitable for every class from Mini and Rotax to OK and KZ, with worldwide delivery and expert support.

Why body protection matters in karting

The forces in karting are higher than they look. Lateral g-forces in corners and the hard, unsprung chassis push the driver's ribs against the seat lap after lap. The right body protection does three things:

  • Reduces impact: a rigid or padded shell spreads the load of contact and seat pressure across a wider area.
  • Prevents bruised and cracked ribs: the most common karting injury, especially for drivers new to a stiffer seat or a faster class.
  • Improves comfort and consistency: less pain over a long stint means you can focus on driving, not bracing.

Types of karting body protection

Rib protectors

A rib protector is a rigid or semi-rigid vest worn over the torso, under the race suit. It's the core piece of body protection in karting and the item most series have rules about. Our range includes the Bengio Bumper, Tillett P1, Alpinestars Bionic, ARROXX XBASE and TopQ, and the Speed Dresden RK-1 and Leipzig RP-1.

Body protectors

Body protectors offer broader torso coverage and are a popular choice for younger or beginner drivers who want extra reassurance while they build confidence. The ARROXX XBASE body protector is available from the smallest junior sizes upward.

Neck supports

A neck support (or neck collar) helps reduce strain and protect the neck during driving and in the event of an impact. We stock the Speed neck support and the Sparco K-ring Junior, designed specifically for younger drivers.

CIK-FIA homologation explained

Rib protectors used in karting can carry CIK-FIA homologation, shown by a label and homologation number on the product. A number of championships and national series require drivers to wear a homologated rib protector, and some specify it by age or class. Rules vary between organisers, so always check the technical regulations for your series and look for the homologation details on the product page before you buy. If you're unsure what your event requires, contact us and we'll help you choose a compliant option.

How to choose the right body protection

Sizing and fit

A rib protector should fit firmly around the ribcage without restricting your breathing, and it must sit under your race suit, so factor that into the size. Sizing is usually given as XXS–XL or by height/age for juniors, and it varies between brands — always check the size chart on the individual product page. A protector that's too loose can shift on impact, while one that's too tight is uncomfortable over a race distance.

Junior and senior

Younger drivers often start with a body protector or a junior-specific rib protector and neck support for added reassurance, then move to a competition rib protector as they progress. We stock options across the full size range, from the smallest junior fit to adult sizes.

Rigid vs padded

Rigid-shell rib protectors offer the highest level of impact spreading and are favoured by competitive drivers, while softer padded options can be more comfortable for arrive-and-drive or beginner use. Choose based on your class, your series' rules and how much track time you do.
